High Speed Rail Train 1
There are many organizations - private,
public, and non-profit - who are advocating
a Midwest high speed rail system. This system,
with its hub in Chicago, would eventually extend
to 11 Midwestern states. Indiana would benefit
from having three lines cross the state, while
Indianapolis would have direct connections
to Chicago, Cincinnati, and Louisville. It is
estimated that the new routes will cut travel
time in half when compared to existing rail service.

The Midwest High Speed Rail Coalition is a membership-based non-profit organization promoting the
development of better, faster, more frequent intercity passenger rail service in
nine Midwestern states - Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
The mission of the organization is to educate business leaders, elected officials, and the public
about the benefits of an advanced passenger rail network for the Midwest.

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is one of nine member states in the Midwest Regional Rail Initiative,
an ongoing effort to develop and expand access to an improved passenger rail system
in the Midwest. If developed, this system would provide high-speed rail service
(80-110 mph) with shorter travel times, increased frequency of service,
accessibility and reliability. Other participating states include Illinois, Iowa,
Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Nebraska and Wisconsin.
There are three federally designated high-speed rail routes through Indiana:
- Chicago to Cleveland
- Chicago to Detroit
- Chicago through Indianapolis to Cincinnati and also to Louisville
